Trailspace.com Review: Vargo Titanium Nail Peg

By Mark J. Antinore

"The soil was extremely rocky and hard to pound in the aluminum stakes. They were equally hard to remove. The Vargo titanium stakes went in like butter and pulled out just as easy. Great product!"

Questions & Answers

Do you have any Question?

Question: Are the stakes solid or hollow? 03 Nov, 2013
Answer: They are solid as are the rest of our tent stakes.
Question: What is the difference in strength and holding power between these and the lighter ones? 14 Nov, 2013
Answer: The holding power between the Titanium Nail Peg and the Ultralight Titanium Nail Peg is negligible but the difference in strength is significant enough to be taken into consideration. The regular Nail Peg is practically about twice as strong.
Question: How do they work in frozen ground? 26 Feb, 2014
Answer: Beautifully. It was one of the reasons we decided to make such a strong stake. You'll need to carefully pound them into the ground (don't step on them or use your feet!). Do so slowly because if done too fast, the stake may heat up from the friction melting the ice/snow it touches. Once that refreezes, the nail peg will be frozen in the ground.
Question: What is the diameter of these tent pegs? I have a groundsheet with holes that my 8mm tent pegs would not fit through. I have skinnier aluminum tent pegs that were supposed to go in the holes, but the rocky ground bent some of them and rendered most of them useless. 02 Sep, 2014
Answer: They are 5 mm (0.2") in diameter. These are the toughest stakes will make so rocky ground won't bend them.
