Questions & Answers

Do you have any Question?

Question: What is the temper and alloy designation of your Aluminium Summit stake? Are they the same as MSR groundhog stakes (apart from the colour)? 15 Oct, 2013
Answer: The Vargo Aluminum Summit Tent Stake is extruded 6061 aluminum. It is similar in shape and length to the MSR Groundhog Tent Stake though slightly lighter and less expensive.
Question: I'm a big Vargo fan, but 6061 Aluminum alloy is really not great compared to the 7000 series used in the MSR Groundhogs, which happen to be almost exactly the same price. I'm a bit disappointed to see Vargo offer worse gear for the price than MSR tbh, you may want to look into that and maybe make a Y-beam out of Titanium to compete with the Groundhog. 06 Aug, 2015
Answer: Performance wise 7000 series aluminum can be stronger and lighter than 6000 series (because of what other elements with which the aluminum is alloyed), but when it comes to these tent stakes, the performance difference is negligible (both are used in aircraft and aerospace applications) and the weight difference is minuscule (1 gram). For $.55 less than the MSR Groundhog, the Summit Stake is on par with this popular stake.
