Susquehanna River Water Trail (Lower Section) Map & Guide - When people think of the Chesapeake Bay, Pennsylvania isn’t the first state that jumps to mind. But most of the Bay’s fresh water arrives via the Susquehanna, along a route paddlers can now follow using a map and guide that leads them past a new series of wayside interpretive panels between Harrisburg and the state line.

Customers at Shanks Mare Outfitters, housed in a century-old general store on the river’s banks, started scooping up the new maps as soon as they came through the door. "This project is all about the river in such a positive sense," says Shanks Mare co-owner Steve Winans. "It isn’t about thousands of condos going up or any controversial stuff. It’s about the beauty and history of this river -- why it was so important in the past and why it’s so important today.
